Q

What is surface area?

A

Don’t be tricked- it isn’t the area of a 3D shape, it’s sort of like the perimeter. It’s measuring the parts you can touch (3D shapes only).

29
Q

Why do you use that particular formula to work out the area of a trapezium?

A

Because when you do a+b, you are essentially doubling the trapezium to make a parallelogram. Because you only need to do b x h for parallelogram, you’ve already got your base (a+b) x the height (whatever it says it is). Then because you doubled it before, half it.

31
Q

How do you find the area of a compound shape?

A

Break it down into smaller shapes you can find the area of, and then add them back together.

32
Q

If a rectangle’s length was 4cm and its width was 8cm, what would the area be?

A

32cm squared.

33
Q

What is an equilateral triangle?

A

A triangle with the same length edges and the same angles.

34
Q

What is ALWAYS the inside angle of an equilateral triangle?

A

60 degrees. ALWAYS

35
Q

How do you find the volume of a cube?

A

Do the length x width x depth

36
Q

What is depth when you talk about volume in a 3D shape?

A

How far back it goes.

37
Q

What is width?

A

The vertical line sort of on a 2D shape (sometimes 3D but it depends on what shape).

38
Q

What is length?

A

The horizontal line sort of on a 2D shape (sometimes 3D but it depends on what shape).

39
Q

How do you find the volume of a cuboid?

A

Length x width x depth.

40
Q

How do you find the surface area of a shape?

A

Add up the areas of the different sides. For example, in a cube which’s length was 1, width was 1 and depth was 1, then I would do each of the sides. Bottom= 1x1=1 Top=1x1=1 Left=1x1=1 Right=1x1=1 Front=1x1=1 Back=1x1=1
Add those together… 1+1+1+1+1+1 (it doesn’t matter in which order) = 6

41
Q

When do you add up the area of each side?

A

When you want to find the surface area of a shape.

42
Q

How do you do a decimal number divided by a single digit whole number? Eg. 3.784 divided by 2?

A

Use bus stop method.
