Chemistry Flashcards
Learn about how atoms and elements mix and react
What state of matter diffuses?
Gas
What is sublimation?
Where a solid turns into a gas without becoming a liquid.
What is deposition?
The opposite of sublimation- a gas to a solid without becoming a liquid.
Which state of matter has the most energy?
Gas
Which state of matter has the least energy?
Solid
Which state of matter is hydrogen at room temperature?
Gas
Elements of the periodic table:
What state is Fe at room temperature?
Solid
What structure do the particles of a solid have
A regular, arranged structure
Elements of the periodic table:
What state is H at room temperature?
Gas
Elements of the periodic table:
What state is K at room temperature?
A solid
True or false: does a solid have no fixed shape or volume?
False
What volume does a liquid have?
A fixed volume but a shape that changes to fill the bottom of the container.
Is a gas able to flow?
Yes
Can a liquid be compressed?
No- it has a high density so it can’t be compressed.
Does a gas have a high or low density?
Low so it can be compressed.
What does the word properties mean in science?
Characteristics or features
What does the word matter mean in science?
Any substance that has mass and takes up space
What is an atom?
The smallest part of an element that can exist.
What is a bond?
An attraction between atoms or molecules that enables the formation of chemical compounds
What is a compound?
A substance made up of two or more different elements
What is a chemical reaction?
A process that involves rearrangement of atoms to produce new substances
What is a compound formulae?
It tells you which elements the compound is made from and how may atoms of each element there are. It has a chemical bond.
