What are the weight gain guidelines?
Underweight:
-BMI: = <18
-Total LBS gain range: 28-40 LBS
-2nd/3rd trimester LBS gain: 1-1.3
Normal Weight:
-BMI: 18.5-24.9
-Total LBS gain range: 25-35 LBS
-2nd/3rd trimester LBS gain: 0.8-1
Overweight:
-BMI: 25-29.9
-Total LBS gain range: 15-25 LBS
-2nd/3rd trimester LBS gain: 0.5-0.7
Obese:
-BMI: >30
-Total LBS gain range: 11-20 LBS
-2nd/3rd trimester LBS gain: 0.4-0.6
Folic Acid
Is needed to meet demands of increase blood supply and fetus.
Essential for formation of RBC’s cell duplication and placental and fetal growth. Maternal needs 2x during pregnancy r/t need for more erythrocytes, plus placental and fetal growth. Caused by nutritional deficiencies (folate), hemolytic anemias, Mal-absorption, and specific medication.
