Mass transport - tissue fluid Flashcards
1
Q
Tissue fluid function
A
-to supply cells with metabolic materials where capilleries cannot
2
Q
How is tissue fluid formed
A
-blood in arterial end of capillaries has hydrostatic pressure (H.P.) due to being pumped by the heart
-This H.P. causes tissue fluid to move out of the blood plasma
3
Q
How does tissue fluid return to the capillaries?
A
-due to fluid lost from capillaries, there is an increased conc. of plasma proteins in the capillary
-this means water potential at venule ( vein) end of capillary lower than water potential of tissue fluid
-so some water capilleriees re-enters at venule end by osmosis
4
Q
What happens to any excess tissue fluid
A
drained into the lymphatic system
