Marine Processes Flashcards
Abrasion
Erosion-the scraping, scouring or rubbing action of materials being carried by moving features such as rivers, glaciers or waves, which erode rocks
Attrition
Erosion-A reduction in the size of material
Solution E
Erosion- a type of erosion that involves rock being chemically changed such that it is taken into solution and removed
Hydraulic action
Erosion- an erosive process which involves the pressure of water hitting a surface, compressing air in any cavities which exist, resulting in the removal of rock fragments over time.
Suspension
Transportation- fine, light material is carried along by the river
Solution T
Minerals are dissolved in the water, this is a chemical change
Traction
Transportation- large boulders and rocks are rolled along the river bed
Saltation
Transportation- small pebbles and stones are bounced along the river bed
