Q

How does Lattitude affect climate

A
  • Lattitude is angle from equator
  • affects amount of sunlight recieved due to the:
    . Angle of incidence
.Amount of atmospher sun passes through

Q

How does the NAD affect climate

A

Warm ocean current keeps the UK warmer, UK weather is warmer than otherwise would be, increased evaporation, increased rainfall

Q

How does continentality affect UK climate

A

Continental areas are drier than maritine areas, this is because the prevailing wind brings moist air into maritine areas. Continental areas don’t have the prevailing wind. They are also further away from any large bodies of water meaning that the moist air dries before it reaches these areas.

13
Q

What is the UK climate and why

A
  • Maritime climate
–> influenced by sea surrounding it
–> onshore winds bring warm moist air

15
Q

what are the steps in the freeze-thaw cycle

A
  • water seeps into cracks and fractures in he rock
  • When water freezes, it expands about 9% in volume
  • wedging apart the rock
  • if process keeps repeating, the rock will eventually split/break into pieces

16
Q

how has human activity influenced the landscape

A
  • settlements
  • farming
17
Q

how might Traffic infrastructure be an indicator of human influence on the landscape

A
  • Roads and motorways
    –> create noise
–> barrier to the movement of wildlife
18
Q

how might street lighting be an indicator of human influence on the landscape

A
  • light pollution; hides night sky
19
Q

how might construction activity be an indicator of human influence on the landscape

A
  • a sign that an area will become even more impacted
  • cranes and scaffolding ruining the views of skylines
20
Q

how might high-rise development be an indicator of human influence on the landscape

A

indicates higher land value, which are a function of better accessibility

21
Q

how might solar farms be an indicator of human influence on the landscape

A
  • take up green spaces, resulting in loss of wildlife
22
Q

how might golf courses be an indicator of human influence on the landscape

A
  • chemicals used to keep the courses green and free of weeds
