Male Genitalia Flashcards
Where are the kidneys in the cow?
Both on the right side of the median plane. Left is more ventral and caudal. Left is 3-5 L. Right is last rib to L3
Are cow kidneys multilobular?
Yes
What is different about the ischial tuber in the cow?
There is triangular thickening rather than linear thickening
What comes out the greater sciatic foramen?
- Sciatic
- Cranial gluteal vessels
- Cranial gluteal n
- Caudal gluteal n
What comes out the lesser sciatic foramen?
Caudal gluteal vessels
Which sciatic foramen is larger in the cow?
Lesser
What is the pudendal (Larson) Nerve Block?
Pudendal and caudal rectal nerves are blocked to anesthetize retractor penis and rectal vaginal tone
What are the landmarks for the pudendal nerve block?
Rectal exam, Lesser sciatic foramen
What is different about the pelvic cavity in the cow?
Encircled by bony pelvis
What marks the pelvic inlet?
D: promontory
L: Ilia
V: Pectin
What marks the pelvic outlet?
D: Caudal vertebrae
L: Sacrosciatic ligament
V: Ischiatic arch
What is the vertical diameter?
Cranial edge of pelvic symphysis to S2/S3
What is the conjugate diameter?
Cranial edge of pelvic Symphysis to promontory
What is the transverse?
Horizontal line through the pelvis
What do you use to measure the pelvis?
Rice bovine pelvimeter
Describe the orientation of the ruminant testes?
Hangs vertically in scrotum with epididymis attached to the caudomedial surface of testis with the head at the proximal end of the testis
Describe the penis in cows?
Fibroelastic type with sigmoid flexure and retractor penis is well developed
How are ruminants normally catheterized?
It is too hard to use the penis because of the urethral recess and sigmoid flexure so do ischial urethostomy
What is the apical ligament?
Dorsal thickening of tunica albuginea
What is the raphe?
Ventral thickening of tunica albuginea
Where is the urethral process?
Lies in shallow groove between raphe and glans shorter than in small ruminants
