Physical factors
. Mosquitos ( vectors) that carry malaria can only survive in warm countries e.g Africa
. Higher temp decrease the time taken for parasite to develop inside a mosquito, so increase likelihood of infection
. Mosquito like to breed in fresh water e.g swamps, small puddles and wet lands
Socio economic
. Limited health education
. Low incomes can’t afford treatment
. Poor health reduces the body’s ability to fight infection
. Poor quality housing puts people at risk
Impact on well being and symptoms
. Inability to work ( loss of income) can prevent people from affording the treatment they need
. Children with extended absences from school ( can effect their education and future jobs)
. Can hinder a countries development
. Symptoms: fever ,headaches, nausea
Strategies to Manage Malaria
. 2015- WHO set a goal for 2030 to reduce global malaria incidence and mortality rates by at least 90%
. Sparing mosquito nets with intestacies ( IRS)
. Bed nets prevent people from getting bitten
. Anti malarial drugs or vaccines to vulnerable people
. Monitoring the breeding of mosquito’s
. Improving diagnosis
Disadvantages
. People who live in remote areas have limited access to health care
. IRS can be very expensive and may have to be repeated several times a year
