. Coronary heart disease is a disease where a build up of fatty substances in the arteries means that heart doesn’t get enough blood
. A non communicable disease
. Risk factors include lifestyles- overweight, alcohol, smoke
. Physical factors - air pollution
. More common in wealthier countries because of improvements of diagnosis
. CASES of CHD is common in developing countries, because death rates are very high due to poor health systems
CHD has an impact on health and well being
. Symptoms of CHD include chest pain, shortness of breath and sweating.
. Make people anxious or depressed and put a strain on relationships
. Taking medications
. Take time off work- can put stress on families
. Economic burden ( expensive)
Strategies to manage CHD
. Lifestyle changes- people are encouraged to eat healthy diet
. Drugs or surgery- to reduce cholesterol or blood pressure or have operation such as heart bypass ( drugs can have bad side effects)
. Taxing foods that are high in fat ( may discourage people from buying it)
. Quit smoking
