The devonport wall

A

. In 1950s, the ministry of defence ( MoD) expanded the Naval Base for storage facilities by 50 acres

. This separated the community behind a 9 foot concrete wall

. In 2007, the wall was demolished to make for a new housing development by Redrow Homes

. Negative perception- enclosed, segregated, crime ridden, deprivation

. Positive perception- regenerated, vibrant, renewed, modern, opportunity

Economic and social

A

. In 2000s, government led regeneration in the form of the ‘New Deal’ such as a new housing. This led to a huge economic and social regeneration of the area with many ‘yuppies’ ( more affluent and skilled outsiders) moving in.
