Magnification and calibration - 2.2 (2) Flashcards
Module 2, Chapter 2, 2.2, Page 16
If the actual size of the object isn’t known but the magnification is known, how can the actual size be calculated?
by rearranging the formula
What would the formula be to find out the actual size of the object?
actual size of object = size of image / magnification
What is the formula to find out the size of the image?
size of image = actual size of object / magnification
When doing magnification calculations, what equipment must you need?
a ruler, calculater and pen
When doing calculations, what should you consider?
all measurements must be in the same units
Should you use the smallest unit of measurement?
yes
Does magnification have units?
no
To convert a metre to mm, what do you need to multiply by?
x1000
To convert back a mm to metre, what do you need to divide by?
/ 1000
To convert mm to micrometres, what do you need to multiply by?
x1000
To convert micrometre to mm, what do you need to divide by?
/ 1000
To convert micrometre to nanometre, what do you need to multiply by?
x1000
To convert nanometre to micrometre, what do you need to divide by?
/1000
1) To find out what the magnification is in a question, what must you do first?
check that the units in the magnification question are the same
2) After checking if the units in the question are the same, what do you do after?
calculate the magnification
