Lymphatics Flashcards
What is the lymphatic system
To return tissues fluid back to the blood
Heavy involved in immunity system
Consists of network of Lymphatic vessels Lymphatic capillaries Lymph nodes Lymphatic tissue Lymphatic organs
What is lymph
Is a water fluid which flows through the lymphatic system
If fluid in the tissues accumulates swelling occurs. What happened next
Lymphatic capillaries absorb excess tissues fluid. This is called lymph
Lymph flows into larger lymphatic vessels and is eventually transported back to the cardiovascular system. through two lymph ducts.
Passing through a number of lymph nodes
Where dose the lymphatic system start
Mature in the loose reticular connective tissue that makes up a large part of the nodes and most of your other lymphoid organs
What are lymphatic vessels
Help reabsorb the fluid
What are lymph nodes
monitors and filters lymph as it flows through
It’s gets inspected by lymphocytes
Which can release chemicals calling for macrophages to get Reid of unwanted pathogens
What are lymphatic organs
Spleen
Thymus
Adenoids
Tonsils
Where does the lymphatic system start
In the tissues
In the capillaries
It gathers excess fluid which failed to be passed through the arerioles and venule
In a blind ended tube
It’s a slow system so
It’s has valves to make sure that it moves in one direction
Helped by smooth muscles keep the fluid moving
What is a lymphatic duct
Is the end on the lymphatic system. Feeds the lymph back into the lower pressure area.
What does the right lymphatic duct do
Drains all the lymph collected from the upper right area of the body.
Feeding them into the internal jugular vein
What dose the larger thoracic duct do
Takes the lymph from the rest of the body upper left side and lower half of the body.
Feeding them into the subclavian vein
How much fluid does the lymphatic system recover per day
3 litres of fluid
What happened if there was a blockage in the lymphatic system
Could result is swelling called edema
What are mucosa associated lymphoid tissues
Specially placed tissues around areas of the body which have sensitive tissues. and points of entry
Some in the respiratory system and digestive track
E.g tonsils is that biggest, it inspects everything you eat and breath and try and remove pathogen entering you r s and d s
