Lymphatic System Flashcards
1
Q
What are the three major extracellular fluids of the lymphatic system?
A
1 - Blood plasma
2 - Interstitial fluid - b cells
3 - Lymph - in lymphatic vessels
2
Q
Right lymphatic duct
A
from right head, chest, arm
- drains into the right subclavian vein re-entering blood circulation
3
Q
Thoracic Duct
A
from below ribs and left side of body
- below ribs coverage goes to an enlarged vessel called the cisterna chyli
- thoracic duct drains blood into left subclavian vein to re-enter blood circulation
4
Q
List the passage of the lymphatic system.
A
Lymphatic capillaries - Lymphatic collecting vessels (valves) - lymphatic ducts - subclavian veins
5
Q
Name the primary lymphatic organs and their purposes.
A
- Red bone marrow
- lymphoid stem cells arise here in fetus
- if remain here they become B lymphocytes and if they leave they become T lymphocytes (Thymus gland) - Thymus gland
- T lymphocytes proliferate from mitosis and mature
6
Q
Name the secondary lymphatic organs and their pruposes.
A
- Lymph nodes
- cervical, axillary, inguinal, intestinal, pelvic - Spleen
- filters blood, eg. removes bacteria - Mucosal Associated Lymphoid Tissue
- eg. tonsils, appendix, lymphoid tissues in mucous membranes
- tonsils: a) adenoids (1) pharyngeal nasopharynx
b) palatine (2) in oropharynx
c) lingual (1) base of posterior part of tongue.
