Lympathic System Flashcards
Function of the system
Carries excess fluid leaked from blood plasma of the cardiovascular system into interstitial fluid area and back to the CVS via lymph vessels
Gives location for immune cells to multiply
Components of the system
Lymphatic vessels - transport fluids back to the blood; interstitial fluid via lymphatic system
Lymphoid tissues & organs - house phagocytes and lymphocytes
Where does Lymph originate
Blood plasma circulates through blod vessels, nutrients, waste products and gas are exchanged between blood and interstitial fluid
Most fluid are small solutes and forced out of capillary at the arterial end, moves back in at venous end
What is the Thymus location and function
Anterior mediastinum overlying the heart; posterior to sternum
Lymph Nodes
Removes foreign material and cancer cells from lymphatic vessels
Produces lymphocytes
Spleen
left side of abdominal cavity beneath diaphragm
Filters and cleanses blood of bacteria
