Ad Hominem
An attack on a person rather than the argument
Shifting the Issue
Changing the subject during an argument instead of dealing with the main point.
Either/Or Fallacy
When 2 possibilities are provided
Sweeping Generalization
Concluding without providing enough evidence to support or without considering other viewpoints
Bandwagon
Siding with the majority
Begging the Question
A statement that repeats the same thing twice/arguing in a circle without really proving anything new
False Analogy
Comparison between 2 things that aren’t really alike
Technical Jargon
Using words that are specifically for a certain field or profession
Confusing Cause & Effect
Mixing up which thing is making something happen
Appeal to Fear
Getting someone to do something using what they’re scared of
Fallacy of Division
Assuming that what’s true for the whole is true for its parts as well
Hasty Generalization
Jumping to conclusions
Straw Man Argument
When someone exaggerates their opponents argument to make it easier to attack
Fallacy of the Middle Ground
Thinking that the truth is always half way between two extremes/in the middle
