What is socialization?
The processes that cause children to develop an awareness of social order and values and achieve a distinct sense of self.
What is social construction?
An idea or practice that a group of people agree exists.
Why are norms important to sociologists?
Because they explain some of the ways society molds us and how we mold society.
What is social order?
The invisible agreement among people on how they should behave and interact with each other.
People interact differently with babies based on the babies gender. How do sociologists analyze these interactions?
They would observe the ways people interact with a baby based on its gender and ask questions based on gender and parenting to get a better understanding of how society molds us and how this affects babies and their development.
What is social structure?
Patterns in how people behave in relationships with others.
What is sociological imagination according to C. Wright Mills?
Applying the imaginative thought to asking and answering sociological questions.
What impact did COVID have?
The rapid change to online learning highlighted inequalities amongst students that traditional campus life obscured.
What did Mills say about orbits?
Everyone is trapped in their own orbits of daily cycle and habits. The barrier outside of the orbit is what goes on around you in your life or something like interactions.
How was it that Mills said someone could overcome a limited perspective?
