ANYTIME you give Ground or Flight instruction

What records must a CFI Keep?
- TSA Documents for Student Pilots: Birth Cert/Passport (5 years)
- Sign logbook of all learners who recieve Ground or Flight Instruction
- Name & Date of Learners who you have endorsed for..
* Solos
* Written + pass/fail
* Checkride + pass fail - All of these records must be kept for 3 years (accept for #1)
How long is an IACRA application good for?
60 Days
How long is an endorsement for a checkride good for?
60 days
How long is an endorsement for a solo flight good for?
90 days
Does the endorsement to take the Written Test need to be given by the same instructor that is signing them off for the checkride?
No
Does an Instructor giving a Student Pilot an Endorsement need to be the same instructor who gave them their Solo Endorsements?
No, unless you are giving them Solo endorsement to get to the checkride.
How do you determine what is required on the Checkride for someone wanting to add an Airplane Single Engine Category & Class to their Cert?
- Check FAR 61.36 (Addition of Rating)
- Check Appendix of appropriate ACS
What are the exceptions to the required Flight Review?
- Student Pilots
- Wings program - complete a phase
- Passing a Checkride (including CFI/CFII)
- A CFi who has retained Currency under 61.197 does NOT need to do the 1hr Ground Portion

Does a CFI need to be acting as PIC in order to provide instruction?
No, UNLESS it is for a learner who is not yet rated for the Category, Class, or Type if required. (Like Student Pilots)
What minimum Medical requirement must a CFI meet?
3rd Class medical (to take the CFI Checkride)
* Can use BasicMed afterwards if the aircraft meets requirements
* Doesn not need a medical AT ALL if NOT acting as PIC. (Learner is qualified PIC)
Student Pilots are NOT qualified to act as PIC
What does a Flight Review need to consist of?
- Minimum of: One hour of Ground training & 1 of Flight training
- Review of Part 91
- Manuevers & Procedures training that are necessary for safety (at discretion of CFI)

Can the Flight Review be completed in any airplane?
No, must be accomplished in an aircraft for which that pilot is rated

Recipiants logbook must be Endorsed with A.65

Does the CFI conducting a Flight Review need to actually be rated for the Cat & Class of aircraft used?
Yes
What happens if a Learners Flight Review reveals a deficiency?
- The CFI may offer training on deficiencies durring the Flight Review
- If the CFI deems that more training is needed, they can withold the Flight Review Endorsement pending more training.
Does the same CFI need to provide both the Ground and Flight portions of a Flight Review?
NO. They can be completed by separate CFIs
* The completion of the Flight Portion of the Review is considered the new Currency date.
What is the role of the CFI durring a Flight Review?
- Primary role is Evaluation
- Secondary role is instruction, if needed
What are some considerations that the CFI should make prior to performing a Flight Review?
- Organize a Plan of Action
- Determin the pilots level of experience (are they a rusty pilot?)
- Consider how the recipient intends to use their Privledges
Who can use BasicMed?
- Pilots exercising Private pilot privileges as Pilot in Command (PIC) or as a required flightcrew member (such as a safety pilot)
- Flight Instructors
- Pilot Examiners
What are the operating limitations of BasicMed?
- 18,000ft MSL max operating altitude
- 12,500 max MTOW
- 250kts max
- 7 max occupant aircraft
- 6 pax, no more than
- Must carry CMEC & Course Completions Certificate in logbook
- No flight for Compensation or Hire
What two things must a pilot using BasicMed carry in their logbook?
- The CMEC
- Course Completion Certificate
