What are the Eligibility Requirements for CFI?

6 total

A
  1. 18 years old
  2. Read, speak, write, understand English
  3. Have CPL or ATP WITH an Instrument Rating in the Cat & Class rating applicable to CFI rating sought
  4. FOI Endorsement
  5. Pass FOI & FIA written tests
  6. Log 15 hrs PIC in Cat & Class for CFI rating sought
  7. Have at 3rd Class Medical to take the Practical Test

What are the Privileges of a CFI Cert?

A

Train & issue Endorsements for
1. Student pilot Cert
2. Private Pilot Cert
3. Flight Instructor Cert (if requirements met)
4. Ground instructor cert
5. Aircraft Rating
6. An Instrument Rating (if CFII)
7. Flight Review, operating privilege, recency of experience
8. Practical test endorsement
9. Knowledge test endorsement

And Accept an application for a Student Pilot cert or PPL/CPL

What are the Limitations of the CFI Cert?

A
  1. No more than 8hrs of FLIGHT instruction in a rolling 24 hr period
  2. Must hold a CFI rating for the Cat & Class for which the training is being conducted, AND Hold the Pilot Cert for that Cat & Class.
  3. CANNOT endorse for Solo flight privleges unless you have given the required flight training AND ensured that they are capable under existing circumstances
  4. CANNOT endsorse for Solo XC flight unless you have determined the students is adquately prepared under existing circumstances
  5. CANNOT endorse student for flight in Class B unless you have given adequate ground & flight instruction at or in that SPECIFIC Bravo
  6. CANNOT give instruction in an aircraft requiring a Type Rating if you dont have that Type Rating
  7. Aircraft must have Dual Controls (throwever wheels count) 91.109
  8. Cannot Self Endorse
  9. Train CFI Initial Candidates unless you meet the requirements in 91.195

What are the Medical Requirements for a CFI?

A
  1. To take the CFI Checkride - A 3rd Class Medical
  2. Use Basic Med - As long as the Aircraft meets the Basic Med requirements
  3. No medical at all IF you are not Acting as PIC
