what is meant by person centred care?
- putting individuals in control of their own safety.
- individuals should be placed at the centre of the care.
- individuals should be considered.
- privacy & dignity should be respected
- individuals should be made aware of their rights to independence and be able to make their own decisions and informed choices.
- mutual trust and respect should be built.
- staff should work in partnerships with the individual and both their families and other professionals.
what is meant by duty of care?
- all processional have a duty of care to safeguard individuals within their care.
- decisions made are led by the individuals needs, wishes and preferences.
- risks are identified and reduced.
- individuals are supported and protected from danger, harm and abuse.
- individuals should not not placed in situations that can cause any danger, harm or abuse.
what is meant by effective record keeping?
- accurate, complete and up to date information should be held on individuals and must be kept secure
- identify risks.
- guidance should be provided regarding actions to take care where risks are identified
- consistent information must be available to support worker on a need to know basis
- accurate information should be shared between professional when required.
what is meant by following polices and procedures.
building trust with a vulnerable individuals which can be when they have been abused before.
how do you build a trusting relationship with a vulnerable individual?
- building trusting respect
- encouraging open discussions which may prevent abuse.
- enabling individuals to confide in them about abuse.
what is meant by effective communication channels?
worker, individuals, processional and their families might need to communicate about their vulnerable children or adults though either verbal, non-verbal or written methods of communication.
what are the different ways of communicating to report abuse?
- encouraging open dialogue when concerns about abuse can be shared.
- ensuring concerns are responded to which aims to reduce the risk or extent of abuse
- diffuses situations that could lead to the risk of abuse occurring (eg: frustration or distress.)
what is resilience?
it is the process and outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences.
what are the different range of strategies used to develop confidence and resilience?
- promoting choice.
- promoting active participation
- supporting positive risk taking
- teaching personal safety.
