what is the process of making sure that the correct action is taken at the right point?
Try the least formal route first (keep issue within organisation) before more drastic action taken (reporting to an external agency).
what should someone do if they are unsure of the correct action to take?
If unsure, consult the organisations policies for information.
what needs to be maintained at all times?

- Challenge at the time/ when you see it
- Challenge afterwards through procedures

what is meant by Challenge at the time/ when you see it?
- Explain to the person how they are discriminating/what they are doing wrong
- Raise awareness of what they are doing
- So they can reflect on their actions
- So they can see how it is wrong / encourage to apologise?
- (Make a note/record of what happened)
what is meant by Challenge afterwards through procedures?
- Follow complaints procedure/refer to relevant policies e.g. equality, confidentiality or bullying policy
- Line manager/more senior member of staff should be informed, so they can take appropriate action
- Could lead to disciplinary action

Training /awareness sessions could be provided e.g. on equality, diversity or about bullying, to show correct ways of behaving.
what actions should someone take in serious situations?
There may be occasions when it is necessary to involve an outside agency such as CQC or Ofsted.

doing your job to the best of your ability, making sure that the best care is being given.
