what are the basic principles that will underpin all care work, what do they aim to do?
- eliminate discrimination
- reduce inequalities
- help ensure individuals care needs are met
what is discrimination?
- treating someone unfairly or in an unjustified way.
- treating someone differently because of them being inferior
-showing preferences
what is equality?
making sure that everyone is being treated fairly but not the same, as everyone has different requirements, so respecting peoples uniqueness and allowing everyone to have the same chances & opportunities
what is diversity?
it is recognising and valuing that is unique, accepting and respecting an individuals differences.
what are rights?
it’s what everyone is legally entitled too, where it’s laid out in legislation.

- (E) equal and fair treatment

what is protection from harm and abuse?
safeguarding procedures should be followed at all times to protect adults and children in care environments.
what are some examples of protection from harm and abuse?
- intruded polices
- health and safety legislation adhered
- fire and evacuate procedures should be in place
- risk assessments carried out for activities/trips/use of equipment.
all helping to reduce danger, harm and abuse & hazards.
what is equal and fair treatment?
- individuals should be treated according to their needs, so making sure that you are making reasonable adjustments.
- everyone should be given equal opportunities to be able to access services.
- adaptions should be made to ensure we all have equal opportunities
what is the main idea of equality and fair treatment?
treating everyone equality BUT NOT the same.
give some examples of making reasonable changes for equal and fair treatment.
- ramps,
- braille,
- leaflets/signs/letters in different languages,
- visual communication,
- choices on a menu for vegans ect,
- hearing loop,
- translator like a signer or interpreter.
- google translate.
what is meant by right to life?
- an individuals life is protected by law
- no one is allowed to harm you
- you are not allowed to harm anyone else
what is meant by choice?
- gives an individual control over their life’s, so they feel empowered.
- increases your self esteem as promotes independence.
what is empowerment?
- giving someone their own control
- allowing them to make their own choices
- decision making powers.
in a care setting what can choice be given over as?
- what they choose to wear
- what they eat
- what activity they what to do.
- what time they choose to get up
- if they want a bath or shower
- which Dr they will to see (is it impacted through religion.)
