LO 5 - Mand Incisors Flashcards
Give a brief overview of mandibular Central incisors
- They are the smallest teeth in the mouth
- Amandibular central incisor occludes only with one opposing tooth, a maxillary central incisor
- Drive from four lobes, three facial and one lingual
- When they erupt, mamelons can be seen on the incisal ridge
- Of all the teeth, they are the most difficult to identify as either right or left
What are four features of mandibular Central incisors that are not always obvious, but if present, they may support a good guess?
- The distoincisal angle is just slightly greater than the mesioincisal
- The distofacial line angle is more rounded than the mesofacial
- The cervical line crests slightly toward the distal side
- The missiofacial line angle is longer than the distofacial line angle
When is there evidence of calcification for mandibular Central incisors?
3 months of age
Mandibular Central incisors tend to erupt around __________
6 to 7 years of age
When is the root completed for mandibular Central incisors?
9 years
Where are the proximal contact areas for mandibular Central incisors?
- Mesial - incisal third
- Distal - incisal third
Where is the height of contour for mandibular Central incisors?
- Facial - cervical third
- Lingle-cervical third
How many popcorns does a mandibular central incisor have?
Three
How many developmental lobes does a manipulative Central Insider have?
4 - 3 facial, 1 lingual
Describe the labial aspect of mandibular Central incisors
- Very smooth facial surface
- Mesioincisal outline is almost straight
- Mesial and distal Heights of contour are at the incisal third
- Crown is wider faciolingually than mesiodistally
Describe the lingual aspect of the mandibular central incisor
- Singulum is much smaller than that of the maxillary anteriors
- No tubercle extensions or lingual pits are evident
- Fossa is very shallow
Describe the mesial and distal aspects of the mandibular central incisor
- Incisal Edge appears to be tilted toward the lingual side
- May have more cervical curvature on the mesial side
Describe the root and pulp cavity of the mandibular central incisor
- Single rooted - straight
- Oval shaped one looked at in cross section
- Proximal grooves are commonly found on the root surface
- Pulp cavity is simple
- Usually have three popcorns and a single root canal
- Root canal is straight and narrow
- Rare, but not possible to have two root canals
Give a brief overview of mandibular lateral incisors
- Mandibular lateral incisors are bigger, wider, and longer than mandibular centrals
- They are wider mesiodistally and longer gingivo-incisally
- Distal developmental lobe is larger than the distal lobe of the mandibular centrals
- They have more prominent features on the lingual aspect then do central incisors
- The lateral incisors are slightly more convex and concave than Central incisors
- Have greater facial curvature than the central incisors
- The mesiofacial line angle is longer than the distofacial line angle
When is there evidence of calcification for the mandibular lateral incisor?
- 4 months of age
