LO 5 - Mand Incisors Flashcards

1
Q

Give a brief overview of mandibular Central incisors

A
  1. They are the smallest teeth in the mouth
  2. Amandibular central incisor occludes only with one opposing tooth, a maxillary central incisor
  3. Drive from four lobes, three facial and one lingual
  4. When they erupt, mamelons can be seen on the incisal ridge
  5. Of all the teeth, they are the most difficult to identify as either right or left

Q

What are four features of mandibular Central incisors that are not always obvious, but if present, they may support a good guess?

A
  1. The distoincisal angle is just slightly greater than the mesioincisal
  2. The distofacial line angle is more rounded than the mesofacial
  3. The cervical line crests slightly toward the distal side
  4. The missiofacial line angle is longer than the distofacial line angle

Describe the labial aspect of mandibular Central incisors

A
  1. Very smooth facial surface
  2. Mesioincisal outline is almost straight
  3. Mesial and distal Heights of contour are at the incisal third
  4. Crown is wider faciolingually than mesiodistally

Q

Describe the lingual aspect of the mandibular central incisor

A
  1. Singulum is much smaller than that of the maxillary anteriors
  2. No tubercle extensions or lingual pits are evident

Q

Describe the mesial and distal aspects of the mandibular central incisor

Q

Describe the root and pulp cavity of the mandibular central incisor

A
  1. Single rooted - straight
  2. Oval shaped one looked at in cross section
  3. Proximal grooves are commonly found on the root surface
  4. Pulp cavity is simple
  5. Usually have three popcorns and a single root canal
  6. Root canal is straight and narrow
  7. Rare, but not possible to have two root canals

Q

Give a brief overview of mandibular lateral incisors

A
  1. Mandibular lateral incisors are bigger, wider, and longer than mandibular centrals
  2. They are wider mesiodistally and longer gingivo-incisally
  3. Distal developmental lobe is larger than the distal lobe of the mandibular centrals
  4. They have more prominent features on the lingual aspect then do central incisors
  5. The lateral incisors are slightly more convex and concave than Central incisors
  6. Have greater facial curvature than the central incisors
  7. The mesiofacial line angle is longer than the distofacial line angle

Q

When do mandibular lateral incisors tend to erupt?

A

7 to 8 years of age

17
Q

When do the roots of mandibular lateral incisors complete?

A

10 years of age

18
Q

Where are the proximal contact areas on the mandibular lateral incisors?

A
  1. Mesio - incisal third
  2. Distal - incisal third
19
Q

Where is the height of contour for the mandibular lateral incisors?

A
  1. Facial - cervical third
  2. Lingual - cervical third
20
Q

How many pulp horns does a mandibular lateral Insider have?

A

3

21
Q

How many developmental lobes does a manipulated lateral incisor have?

A

4 - 3 facial, 1 lingual

22
Q

Describe the labial aspect of mandibular lateral incisors

A
  1. More rounded appearance misially and distally
  2. Developmental grooves are all deeper on the lateral incisors
  3. The height of contour at the contact areas is at the incisal third on the mesial and distal
  4. More convex labially
23
Q

Describe the lingual aspect of the mandibular lateral incisors

A
  1. Shows more prominent features than mandibular Central incisors
  2. Riches are more developed, and enamel tubercles often extend into the fossa
  3. A lingual pit is sometimes present
24
Q

Describe the mesial and distal aspects of mandibular lateral incisors

A
  1. Height of contour on the labial and lingual surfaces is at the cervical third
  2. Lateral incisor is thicker than a central incisor at the linguoincisal ridge
  3. More narrow labio-lingually
  4. Cervical curvature is greater on the mesial then on the distal side
25
Q

Describe the incisal aspect of the mandibular lateral incisor

A
  1. Rounded general appearance and the developmental groups appear deeper
  2. Rotated on the root axis, because the distal developmental lobe is larger and located more lingually than the mesio lobe
  3. Lingual location means for the laterals have to curve distillate to fit into the mandibular Arch
  4. Mandibular Arch curves more than maxillary because it has to fit inside the maxillary Arch
26
Q

Describe the root and pulp cavity of the mandibular lateral incisor

A
  1. Root is slightly wider, thicker and longer than the central incisor
  2. Apex may point labially or distally
  3. Proximal grooves are focused on the root surface- distal is deeper
  4. Three pulp horns
  5. Mandibular lateral pulp canal is larger than Centrals
  6. rare to have two root canals
