Cleft like lumens that lie between cells within each cord
What are sinusoids?
Fenestrated capillaries that process blood as it comes through
What are the functions of the liver?
Production and secretion of bile
What is the function of the Sphincter of Oddi?
Controls release of bile and pancreatic juice into duodenum
What layer is the gallbladder missing?
Submucosa
What is the process of bilirubin?
Bilirubin extracted from blood by hepatocytes and secreted into bile
Bilirubin modified bacterial enzymes
Reabsorbed bilirubin excreted in urine
Where are bile acids made?
Synthesised in the liver from cholesterol
What happens to bile acid before it is secreted?
Conjugated with glycine or taurine
