Lipid Drugs Flashcards
Lipid lowering drugs
HMG CoA reductase inhibitor, resins, ezetimibe, niacin, fibrates
Drugs most effective at lowering triglyceride and VLDL and raising HDL
Niacine, fibrates
Reversible inhibitor of HMG CoA reductase
Statins (simvastatin etc)
Binds bile acids, preventing reabsorptionb of bile acids and increasing cholesterol utilization for replacement
Cholestyramine
Cholestyramine is CI in
Diverticulitis
Selective inhibitor of the NPC1L1 transporter
Ezetimibe
Most effective agent for raising HDL
Niacin
Drugs that cause flushing
VANC(vancomycin, adenosine, niacin, calcium channel blockers)
DOC for hypertriglyceridemia
Gemfibrozil
Increased risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis
Statins & gemfibrozil
Drugs most effective at lowering LDL
Statins, resins, ezetimibe, niacin
Clear VLDL and LDL remnants from blood
High affinity LDL receptors
Statins have an increased risk of rhabdomyolosis and myopathies when given with wc drug
Fibrates
Anithyperlipidemic combination that may cause increased risk for cholelithiasis
Fibrate+ resin
Anithyperlipidemic combination that may cause impaired statin absorption
Statin+ resin
Inherited lipoprototeinemia with deficiency in LPL or ApoC II
Type 1 primary hyperchylomicronemia/ familial lipoprotein lipase deficiency
Inherited lipoprototeinemia with deficiency/defect in LDL receptors
Familial hypercholesterolemia -II
Inherited lipoprototeinemia with deficiency in ApoE
III- Familial dysbetalipoprotenemia
Inherited lipoprototeinemia with decreased clearance or increased production of VLDL
IV- Familial hyperyriglyceridemia
Xanthomas, pancreatitis, no increased risk of coronary heart disease
I- Primary hyperchylomicronemia
Xanthomas, xanthelasmas with increased risk of atherosclerosis
II- Familial hypercholesterolemia
Triad of cornary artery disease, DM type 2, obesity
Familial hypertriglycerdiemia
Cholesterol analog, takes the place of dietary and biliary cholesterol, decreasing intestinal absorption of cholesterol and other phytosterols
Sitosterol
Lipid lowering drug that also has an indication for digitalis toxicity
Cholestyramine
Lipid lowering drug that may cause flushing
Niacin
If given pretreatment may reduce flushing
Aspirin
