Masthead Light
Definition and Information
Rule 21
Masthead Light means a white light placed over the fore-and-aft centerline of the vessel, showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 225° and so fixed as to show the light from right ahead to 22.5° abaft the beam on either side of the vessel.
Rule 22
Visibility of lights
Vessel > 50m === 6 nm
Vessels > 12m but less than 50m === 5 nm, or 3 nm if vessel is < 20m
Vessel < 12m === 2 nm
Sidelights
Definition and Information
Rule 21
Sidelights means a green light on the Stbd side and a red light on the Port side, showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 112.5° and so fixed as to show the light from right ahead to 22.5° abaft the beam on its respective side.
- For vessels < 20m the sidelights can be combined into one lantern carried on the fore-and-aft centerline of the vessel*

Vessel > 50m === 3 nm
Vessels > 12m but less than 50m === 2 nm
Vessel < 12m === 1 nm
Sternlight
Definition and Information
Rule 21
Sternlight means a white light placed as nearly as practical to the stern, showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 135° and so fixed as to show the light 67.5° from right aft on each side of the vessel.
Rule 22
Visibility of lights
Vessel > 50m === 3 nm
Vessels > 12m but less than 50m === 2 nm
Vessel < 12m === 2 nm
Towing Light
Definition and Information
Rule 21
Towing light means a yellow light with the same characteristics as a sternlight placed as nearly as practical to the stern, showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 135° and so fixed as to show the light 67.5° from right aft on each side of the vessel.

Visibility of lights
Vessel > 50m === 3 nm
Vessels > 12m but less than 50m === 2 nm
Vessel < 12m === 2 nm
All-round light
Definition and Information
Rule 21
All-round light means a light showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 360°
A white, red, green or yellow all-round light
Rule 22
Visibility of lights
Vessel > 50m === 3 nm
Vessels > 12m but less than 50m === 2 nm
Vessel < 12m === 2 nm
In inconspicuous, partly submerged vessels or objects being towed ==== All round white light, 3 nm
Flashing Light

Flashing light means a light flashing at regular intervals at a frequency of 120 flashes or more per minute
