Light Dependent and Dependent Stage Flashcards
Light Dependent Stage
The light stage or light-dependent stage requires light energy. The light energy is absorbed by the chlorophyll in chloroplasts and is used to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen (O2) is a waste product and is released as a gas.
light independent stage
The light independent reactions are the second and final phase of photosynthesis taking place in the stoma of the chloroplasts. The light-independent reactions are collectively known as the Calvin cycle and uses the products of the light dependent stage to produce glucose
The dark stage or light-independent stage takes place whether or not light is present. The hydrogen atoms (H), produced in the light stage, reduce the carbon dioxide molecules forming glucose. The dark stage requires enzymes.
important
The light independent stage cannot function without the products of the light dependent stage
why plants at the bottom of areas are dark
Plants that grow well in low-light conditions have darker green leaves because they have more chlorophyll
the large or larger amounts of chlorophyll allows for the optimization of the little sunlight energy plants at the bottom of areas like a rainforest obtain in order to their make food.
