An instict for self-preservation & sexual energy.

What was Freud’s idea regarding life & death instincts?
A
His idea was that urges & wishes from the life instinct in the unconscious lead to arousal, and one of our drives is to reduce arousal.
A way to reduce arousal is death.

‘Thanatos’

It provides energy for the ego to inhibit the sexual instict.
