(Frustration-Aggression Theory) Flashcards
Who proposed the frustration-aggression theory?
Dollard et al. (1939)
What does the theory suggest?
It suggests that aggression in humans comes from frustration from environmental influences.
What happens if there is frustration, but aggression due to it can’t be displayed in that situation?
The agression is displaced onto someone or something else.
Where is evidence found?
In conflicts between people where those being aggressive in the conflict are the ones with fewer resources, which frustrates them.
What can the theory explain?
It can explain seemingly inexplicable aggression.
Example of inexplicable aggression?
Someone in the street turning on a stranger.
