Evidence that the Prefrontal Cortex Regulates Emotions & Behaviour Flashcards
What study did Raine et al. (1998) carry out?
A study to see if violence that came from emotion was different from violence that was planned.
The study used…
… controls and PET scanning.
What did Raine et al. find?
That offenders who had shown emotional impulsive violence differed in their prefrontal corex compared with those who had shown planned ‘predatory’ violence.
What did they find in sub-cortical functioning?
There was lower left & right prefrontal functioning, and other differences, in the emotional impulsive offenders.
Planned predatory offenders had?
Normal prefrontal functioning, as compared with the controls.
But they had high right sub-cortical functioning, so there were some differences with controls.
So there were some differences between them and controls.
