levers Flashcards
1
Q
what is a lever system
A
a lever system enables movement within the body. They explain how our muscles bones and joints work together to produce different forces to move objects including oursleves.
2
Q
what are the 3 types of levers
A
- 1st class
- 2 class
- 3 class
3
Q
what is the fulcrum
A
the joint e.g. the elbow
4
Q
what is the effort
A
the agonist (the muscle that is causing the movement
5
Q
what is the load/resistance
A
the weight that you are tyring to move
6
Q
explain a second class lever system
A
- has the mechanical advantage to move a large load with a small effort.
- only found at the ankle joint in the body.
7
Q
explain a third class lever system
A
- greater distance between the load and the fulcrum, thus meaning it can generate and faster velocity and acceleration, due to having to travel further.
8
Q
where is the only second class lever in the body found
A
in the foot (ankle joint)
9
Q
what is the equation for mechanical advantage
A
mechanical advantage = effort arm/resistance arm
