Lever Systems Flashcards
Lever arm
The bone/body part being moved about a point. Shown as straight line
Fulcrum
The joint where a lever arm pivots
Effort
The force applied by the muscles to the lever arm.
Load
The pull of the muscles on the lever arm. The weight that is being lifted.
First class clever system
The fulcrum is in the middle of
Second class lever system
The load is in the middle
Third class lever system
The effort is in the middle. - knee, elbow
Mechanical advantage
When the effort arm is greater then the weight arm so a greater load can be moved with less effort
First class lever advantage
Can have both high and low advantage. If fulcrum is CLOSER to the load there is a Hugh mechanics, advantage.
Second class lever advantage
Have a high mechanical advantage because effort arm is greater than the load arm.
Third class lever advantage
Has a mechanical disadvantage as weight arm is longer then effort arm. But it can generate more speed
