Energy And Energy Sources Flashcards
Aerobic exercise
Uses oxygen for energy production
Includes activities that are long duration
Includes activities that are of a moderate intensity
Anaerobic exercise
Does not use oxygen for production of energy
Includes activities that are of a short duration
Includes activities that are of a high intensity
Fats
Energy source of aerobic exercise
They require oxygen to break down the fat into energy
They are slow to break down
Once broke down they give large quantities of energy
Carbohydrates
They are an energy source for both aerobic and anaerobic activities
Do not need oxygen to breakdown down into glucose
Doesn’t give as much energy as fats
Quicker to break down and release more energy then fats
Muscular system short term effects
Muscle fatigue
Build up of lactic acid
Oxygen deficit - during recovery oxygen is paid back to - replenish myoglobin stores with oxygen, remove lactic acid, allow energy stores in the muscle to be replenished
CV system short term effects
Increased heart rate
Increase stroke volume
Increased blood pressure
Increased cardiac output
Vascular shunting occurs
Respiratory short term effects
Increase depth of breathing
Increased rate of breathing
Increased gas exchange
Increase tidal volume
Oxygen deficit
Cardiac output
Amount of blood pumped from the heart in one min
Stroke vol x heart rate
Heart rate
Amount of time heart beats per minute
Stroke volume
Amount of blood pumped from the heart in one beat
