How is a fracture caused?
When force in the bone is greater then the bone itself. Term for broken bone.
Symptoms of fracture
Pain
Swelling
Mis-shapen limb
Bruising
Treatment of a fracture
Treated by doctors who will make sure bone is properly aligned and imobilised until healed
Concussion
Mild head/brain injury. Caused by a blow to the head or by whiplash skating the brain inside the skull.
Symptoms of a concussion
Dizziness
Memory loss
Unconsciousness
Confusion
Treatment for concussion
Seek medical advice and monitor closely to make sure the symptoms don’t get worse
Dislocation
Where one of the bones at a joint comes out of place.
Symptoms of dislocation
Pain
Swelling
Miss shapen limb
Treatment of dislocation
Seek medical advice because of possible damage to surrounding nerves
Sprain
A soft tissue injury where some of the fibers of the ligament are torn
Symptoms of sprain

Bruising

RICE
Torn cartilage
Cartilage acts as a cushion at the ends of bones. Small tears appear in the cartilage- torn cartilage.
Symptoms of torn cartilage
Pain
Swelling
Stiffness at the joint
Torn cartilage treatment
Rest and strengthening exercise
Soft tissue injuries - tennis and golfers elbow
Tennis elbow - joint injury where tendons are inflamed and pain is felt outside of the elbow.
Golfers elbow - found on the inside of elbow.
Cause by poor technique and overuse

Overuse injuries can cause injuries or muscular skeletal system. Increased importance for rest and recovery in training schedule
Strain
Soft tissue injury and is a stretch or tear in the muscle. Pulled muscle
Symptoms - pain, swelling bruising
Treatment - RICE
Abrasions
Minor injuries to skin - grazes and cuts
Symptoms - pain and swelling
Treatment of abrasion
Must be cleaned and covered with sterile dressing, pressure applied if bleeding
