Classification Of Muscle Type Flashcards
Voluntary muscles
Muscles around the skeleton which we have control over ( consciously controlled )
They attach to the skeleton by tendons
Involuntary muscles
We don’t have control over them
Example - blood vessels, stomach, intestines
Contract rhythmically and slowly
Cardiac muscles
Found in the walls of the heart
When contract they pump blood around body
Don’t have control over them
Antagonistic muscle pairs
Muscles work together to provide movement of the joints
When one contracts pther relaxes
Muscle contracting - agonist
Muscle relaxing - antagonist
Bicep and triceps working together
Bend elbow (flexion) bicep contracts and tricep relaxes - bicep - agonist, tricep antagonist
When we straighten elbow bicep relaxes and tricep contracts
Quadriceps and hamstrings
When we bend knee hamstring contracts and quadriceps relaxes - hamstring - agonist, quadriceps - antagonist.
Gastronemius and tibalis interior
When we point our toes downwards the gastronemius contracts and tibakis interior relaxes - gastronemius - agonist, tibalis- antagonist
Hip flexors and gluteus Maximus
When we extend leg at hip (extension) gluteus Maximus contracts and hip flexors relax. Gluteus Maximus - agonist, hip flexor is antagonist
