combination of all the institutions, forces, and factors that affect how a firm or company operates and expands.
due to Environmental uncertainty, it devided in to two categories. what are they?

- stable environment: the elemtns in an organization’s environment change very little

- managers are directly responsible for an organization’s success or failure.
- the quality of the prganization is determined by the quality of its managers
- managers held accountable for an organization’s perfomance
- It is difficult to directly attribute good or poor performance to their influence on the organization.

- organization’s success or failure due to the external forces is outside of manager’s control
- Managers’ ability to influence outcomes is limited by external forces.
- the economy, customers, government policies, competitors, industry technologies, and previous managers’ actions

The external environment includes all elements that exist outside the organisation’s control and have the ability to affect the organization.

Searching and sorting through information about the environment.
Scenario Development:
A narrative that describes a particular set of future conditions
Forecasting:
Method for predicting how variables will change the future.
Benchmarking:
The process of comparing an organization’s practices and technologies with those of other companies.
