Q

illumination experments ආලෝකකරණ අත්හදා බැලීම්

A

The researchers discovered that increasing the brightness in the experimental group increased production in both groups.

When the brightness of the lighting was reduced, production increased in both groups.

Only when the illumination was reduced to the level of moonlight did the experimental group’s production decrease.

As a result, it was decided that illumination seemed to have no effect on productivity.

Q

Relay Assembly Test Room experiments

A
  1. Was designed to determine the effect of changes in various job conditions on group productivity.
  2. Involved assembly of telephone relays
  3. depending on how quickly and consistently the women worked

Q

what kind of insights guven by the mass inetrviewing programme?

A
  1. wrokers behaviour wwas influenced by group behaviur
  2. The worker uses their position as a point of reference to understand events.
  3. A worker’s social demands are impacted by group interactions onboth inside and outside of the workplace.

Q

what is bank wiring observation?

A
  1. was done to examine how small groups function and how that affects individual behavior.
  2. The idea was that workers would produce more in order to earn more.
  3. To get bonus they’d help each other to produce more
  4. but the hypothesis was incorrect because employees set their own personal goals that were lower than the company’s goals.
  5. The study concluded that informal connections play a significant role in shaping people’s behavior.

Q

Why did employees in the bank wiring observation room experiment provide limited output?

A
  1. fear of unemployement :Some of the workers would lose their jobs if there were more production per person.
  2. fear of raising the standards: Employees believed that once they met the management standard, they would raise it again.
  3. protection of slower workers: Both on and off the job, the workers were friendly. By not overproducing, the faster workers protected the slower ones.
  4. satisfaction on the part of management: No one was fired, so management appeared to accept lower production rates and output restrictions.

Q

impacts of hawthrone studies

A
  1. Observing people’s behavior has been shown to change their behavior (Hawthorne Effect)
  2. Relationships between workers and their supervisors are powerful
  3. The upward communication has a strong influence.
  4. Recognize the existence of informal communication.

Q

what are theory X negative assumptions?

A
  1. Employee dislikes work
  2. They like to be led by others
  3. Prefer financial benefits

A leader must apply high - level decision making, rules, and supervision.

Q

what are theory Y positive assumptions?

A
  1. Employee naturally likes work,
  2. Take responsibilities in a positive work environment
  3. Participates in organizational activities with enthusiasm.

A leader must employ a completely different system of employee management than those who hold theory X assumptions.

16
Q

explain operations research

A

uses management science methods to improve delivery timing and simplify the manufacturing process

17
Q

what are the two approaches of contemporary approach?

A
  1. system approach

2. contigency approach

18
Q

system approach definition

A

A collection of inter - connected parts assembled to form a unified whole.

19
Q

what are the 2 types of system?

A
  1. open system: system that dynamically interact witth their environment, and are influenced by the external environment
  2. closed system: Are not influenced by and do not interact with their environment (all system input and output is internal).
20
Q

organization as an open system

A

inputs -> transformation process -> outputs

input: raw meterials, human resources, capital, technology, information

transformation process: employees work activities, management activities, technology and operations methods

outputs: products and services, financial results, information, human resource

21
Q

implications of system approach

A
  1. Coordination of the organization’s parts is essential for proper functioning of the entire organization.
  2. Decisions and actions taken in one area of the organization will have an effect in other areas of the organization.
  3. Organizations are not self-contained and, therefore, must adapt to changes in their external environment.
22
Q

contingency approach definition ( situational approach)

A

a management theory that makes the claim that the best management style depends on the situation and that using a single, simple type is costly in the long run.

23
Q

varibles of contigency approach

A

Organization size
As size increases, so do the problems of coordination.

Environmental uncertainty
What works best in a stable and predictable environment may be totally inappropriate in a rapidly changing and unpredictable environment.

Individual differences
Individuals differ in terms of their desire for growth, autonomy, tolerance of ambiguity, and expectations.
