What is a perspective?
a way of looking at the world; a point of view or way consider something
- like a photo picture -> each filter changes the way the same photo may look
- what you see in your own view
What is a theory?
set of principles that explains something particular to understand that perspective
- through research and evidence
- explain what you see
What are theoretical perspectives?
looking at an issue through lens
ex.
inflammation -> like look at feminist perspective -> how women are affected
-> or conflict theory -> conflict between people with power and the other classes
What is the structuralist perspective?
- things can’t change easily
following certain stages for society to function a certain way - seek to understand social structures and relationships -> focus that everything is related
What is Information-Processing & Learning Theory
- look at cognitive development -> asking how information is encoded in our brains
- learn theory is how people retain and learn information
- build off what is around you
- like a computer -> retrieving and storing information
What is Systemic & Humanistic?
- study self-discovery and self growth
- look at beliefs, values, freedom of action, etc
idea full range of individual experiences -> understand ourselves - MORE ON INDIVIDUAL
What is Systemic & Humanistic:
Indigenous Wholistic Theory?
- basically human approach
- Maslow made his own theory from living in Blackfoot Nation Beliefs
- Relating to environment, related (circle) and relational
- Looks at all rounder (all theories)
- Wholeness; we are all related (us + the world + our experiences)
- Human needs (resiliency code):
A) Belonging
B) Mastery → what you know
C) Independence
D) Generosity → know goodness
