october 1917 - abolished private ownership of land and put it in the hands of ‘the people’ - vague but made the peasants happy because they felt in control of the land they farmed
what and when was the decree on workers’ control?
november 1917 - gave control of the factories to the industrial workers
what happened on the 27th december 1917?
all private banks nationalised & merged into the people’s bank of the russian republic
did lenin’s early reforms meet the needs of the state/people?
GOOD = made the party popular, workers were pleased by their increase in power
BAD = workers’ councils voted to give themselves large pay rises which didn’t help production & resulted in inflation, managers often dismissed violently by workers seeking revenge
how did the government intervene to stop the negative effects of the reforms?
set up the supreme council of the national economy (vesenkha)
did lenin’s reforms cause a rise in standard of living?
no - although workers & peasants had increased income due to giving themselves pay rises, this caused inflation which made them pointless
what effect did lenin’s reforms have on gdp?
detrimental effect, industrial production decreased significantly
