Lecture Chapter 5 Flashcards
What are the first cellular stages of human life?
Fertilization – zygote – morula – blastocyst – embryoblast – embryo
What are the three primary germ layers?
Endoderm, Mesoderm, Ectoderm
What tissue types does the endoderm give rise to?
Lining of GI tract, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, thyroid gland
What tissue types does the mesoderm give rise to?
Dermis, lining of blood vessels, muscle, connective, heart, spleen
What tissue types does the ectoderm give rise to?
Epidermis and nervous tissue
What are the two classifications of stem cells?
Embryonic and Adult
What are the two kinds of embryonic stem cells?
Totipotent and Pluripotent
What are the two kinds of adult stem cells?
Multipotent and Unipotent
What does Totipotent mean?
A totipotent stem cell can become any kind of human cell.
What does Pluripotent mean?
A pluripotent stem cell can become nearly any other type of cell
What does Multipotent mean?
A multipotent stem cell can become a restricted number of cell types
What does Unipotent mean?
A unipotent stem cell can become only one cell type.
What primary germ layer(s) does Epithelial tissue arise from?
Ectoderm, Endoderm
What primary germ layer(s) does Connective tissue arise from?
Mesoderm
What primary germ layer(s) does Muscle tissue arise from?
Mesoderm
