Q

what is suberin?

A

a waxy material located within the cell walls of cork cells (and Casparian strip of endodermal cells); forms a protective barrier that is impermeable to water

Q

what is the function of the vascular cambium?

A
  • makes all secondary vascular tissues
  • generates secondary xylem to the inside (towards pith) and secondary phloem to the outside (towards periderm)

Q

what are the two types of initials in vascular cambium?

A

fusiform initials: generate tracheary elements (towards inside) and sieve elements (towards outside)
