Structural (language)
A set of symbols that can be arranged in certain ways to be legitimate and illegitimate
Functional (language)
a complex code by which agents can communicate information. (by complex we mean we don’t include animal communication in language)
Natural language
Created by cultures of humans and have evolved through this (written language is a reflection of language)
Artificial language
Created by individual or small teams, like dothrahki from game of thrones.
Computer language
Artificial language for communication with computers, typically lacking in ambiguity. ( very different from natural language, must think in a different way).
Human Language
has a structure but an implicit structure, like understanding grammar unconsciously,
linguist (what they do)
figuring out what you’re saying and find out what’s goin on inside your head.
Language as a brain interface
language is how we transfer meaningful information, brain to brain interface.
Phonology
How sounds are organized and used in language
Morphology
How sound and meaning interact with words
Syntax
How sentences may be put
together in a language
Pragmatics
How sentences interact with context
to change meaning
(e.g., “how are you?” or
“do you have the time?”)

International Phonetic Alphabet
an alphabet used to help you pronounce every word correctly.
Semantics
Meaning in language and are words that carry manner
