Lecture 15 Cognitive Science in Film Flashcards
Transient Global Amnesia
The inability to turn short term memories into long-term memories.
Patients don’t know they have this condition.
Basic emotions
Fear Anger Joy Sadness Surprise Disgust
(Body is like a robot looking for the joy stick)
Rene Descartes
Was concerned with how do we know our cognitive senses. But as long as we can think we know we exist
Solipsism
The idea that you are the only thinking entity in the universe and everyone else is an illusion.
(very hard to disprove)
care
We have more empathy for people who can communicate with us
Empathy
We are more accepting of violence towards a faceless enemy. (Storm trooper and droids.)
Asimov’s three laws
A robot may not injure a human
being or, through inaction, allow
a human being to come to harm.
A robot must obey the orders
given to it by human beings,
except where such orders would
conflict with the First Law.
A robot must protect its own
existence as long as such
protection does not conflict with
the First or Second Laws.
Asimov’s three laws (problems)
injury is to vaguely defined, and robots can fully prevent all harms.
If functionalism is right
It is theoretically possible that you can upload your mind to a computer or program.
