what are these types of conformity: compliance, obedience and acceptance
A
- conformity is where you change behavior because of (imagined) social pressure)
- Compliance: You follow a request (can you get me a cup of coffee)
- Obedience: you follow someone’s order because of their authority (boss tells you to get a him a cup of coffee)
- Acceptance: you become more convinced that something is the right thing to do, so you do it.

What is the Werther effect?
A
after widely reported suicide, the amount of suicide increases.

what are informational and normative influence?
A
- Informational influence means that if a lot of people think in a way, it must be true
- Formative influence means you want to “go along” so you behave by the norm.

what are the 4 conditions of obedience?
A
- the authority must be legitimate
- the authority must take responsibility for the behavior
- the norm of obedience must be salient
- other norms must not be salient (help te victim if you are in the same room)

A
you assign typical human characteristics to in-group members but not outgroup members

A
- Violence is done out of people’s ideals and they think they are heroes for it.

A
- Instrumental: when you want to get something from others
- Threatened ego: your pride is hurt and you respond evilly
- idealism: you think you do the right thing
- Sadism: you take pleasure from other’s suffering

what is the paradox of seeking justice?
A
- People belief in a just world where people get what they deserve.
- Bad things happen to bad people.
