Strict/punitive punishment, demand maturity, expect obedience, little warmth, demanding, no rationale, try to shape/control behavior and attitudes
Authoritarian
Few expectations, little/no rules, warm, nurturing, allow child to regulate own behavior and activities, accept and affirms child’s impulses
Permissive
Set limits and enforce rules, demanding yet responsive, high communication/rationale, warm nurturing, direct child’s activity in a rational manner
Authoritative
Children do well in school, not likely to engage in antisocial/norm breaking behaviors, anxious, withdrawn, easily frustrated, aggressive, rely on authoritative figures to make decisions, lack spontaniety
Children of authoritarian parents
Difficult controlling impulses and emotions, immature, self-centered, defiant, antisocial behaviors
Children of permissive parents
Self-reliant, achievement oriented, self controlled, friendly/socially responsive
Children of authoritative parents
