Lecture 5: Heart & Pericardium Flashcards
What muscle is in the right atrium anterior wall?
Musculi pectinati
What is the ridge between smooth and rough walls in right atrium?
Crista terminalis
What is the outer surface representation of the crista terminalis and what is it a marker for?
Sulcus terminalis
SA node
What is fossa ovalis remnant from?
Foramen ovale - shunt blood between atria to bypass lungs in foetus
Where is the opening of the coronary sinus and what is its purpose?
Right atrium - drain coronary veins directly into right atrium to bypass vena cava
What is the auricle?
Projection of right atrium - rough muscle - remnant of heart development
What is the rough muscular wall in the right ventricle?
Trabeculae carnae
What is the septomarginal/moderator band?
Connects anterior papillary muscle to interventricicular wall - conduction system goes through here to get to papillary muscles
How many pulmonary veins are there per lung?
2
What foetal structure connected the aorta and pulmonary trunk?
Ductus ateriosus - now ligamentum arteriosum
What is the fibrous skeleton?
Connective tissue - separates atria from ventricles
What is the parasympathetic nerve supply to the heart?
Vagus nerve
What is the sympathetic nerve supply of the heart?
Fibres from T1-4 spinal segments
Where is pain from the heart referred?
Thoracic wall and proximal part of upper limbs
What is the outermost layer surrounding the heart?
Fibrous pericardium - attached to central tendon
