Lecture 14: Anatomy of the Heart & Coronary Arteries Flashcards
What are the cusps of the aortic valve?
Right coronary cusp, left coronary cusp, non-coronary cusp
What branches does the anterior inter ventricular (LAD) give off?
Diagonal and septal
What branches does the circumflex artery give off?
Marginal branches
What branches does the right coronary artery give off?
Right ventricular, posterior descending, left ventricular
What is the position of the coronary arteries and why?
Epicaridal - avoid compression by heart muscle
What are the coronary arteries that the posterior inter ventricular artery branches from & what is the occurrence of these?
Right coronary - 70%
Circumflex - 30%
What is the third branch that sometimes comes off the left coronary artery?
Intermediate branch
What is the rare complication in cardiac catheterisation?
Arterial damage at entry site
What are the common sites for catheter entry?
Femoral artery, radial, brachial
How thick is catheter tube?
2mm
Is the catheter felt in the body?
No sensation
What chemical does the contrast dye contain?
Iodine
What is the contrast cleared by?
Kidneys
What is myocardial infraction?
Sudden occlusion of coronary artery due to ruptured atherosclerotic plaque and thormbus
What is anterior MI caused by?
Left anterior descendin/anterior interventricular occlusion
