Q

hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis

A

hypothalamus -> (follicle stim hormone) GnRH -> anterior pituitary -> FSH/LH -> ovary -> estrogen, inhibin, progesterone

happens @ puberty the release of FSH and LH from anterior pituitary

Q

ovarian hormone levels

A
  • estrogens: prepare uterus to repopulate
  • as follicle grows, so does level of estrogen
  • progesterone: helps maturation of endometrium

follicles become tertiary -> LH increase -> rupture of follicle every time a woman ovulates

everything happens like clockwork

Q
  1. what does FSH trigger?
  2. what does LH do?
  3. what does progesterone and estrogen do?
  4. what happens when implantation happens?
  5. what does corpus luteum do?
A
  1. FSH triggers growth and development of follicles
  2. LH also does what FSH does, LH important for ovulation and maintenance of corpus luteum
  3. Progesterone and estrogen also inhibit LH and FSH. Estrogen helps pre ovulatory phase.
  4. Postovulatory phase is when implantation happens lining of uterus fully matured.
  5. Corpus luteum produces progesterone and estrogen if it degenerates because no LH or implantation -> there is a negative signal

Q

journey of an egg

A

1: egg leaves ovary
2: sperm enters egg and unites with nucleus
implementation happens around here
3: fertilized egg divides
4. cells attach in uterus
