Lecture 3: Upper limb muscles Flashcards
5 finger method to muscles of the arm that attach to the medial condyle
Thumb = Pronator teres Index = Flexor Carpi Radialis Middle = Palmaris Longus Ring = Flexor digitorum Superficialis Pinky = Flexor carpi Ulnaris
Size and shape of the arm
Depends on the size of the brachialis muscle
Curls in the pronate postion (Revese curls) will work on this muscle.
Palmar Fossa
Protects hand from puncture
Palmaris longus
Missing in 16% of people, function with it out
Tenses the fassa can be moved to repair liagmanets
Biceps brachii and supanator muscles
Work together to supinate the hand
Flexor Retinaculum
If cut or torn will bow string the tendons
Sever tendons of the hand
Cuts around the finger or palm will send tendons into the forearm as they contract.
Saltue Muscle
Adductor Polliscis
Tiny muscles of the palm
Help pull on tendons and deal with fine finger movement
Posterior arm
lateral epipcondyle for all muscles
All extend and one supinates
Two tenonds for the index finger
Extensor indicis and extensor digitorum
9 tendons of the hand
front and back
Anatomical Snuff box
Pull the thumb up and back, and a pocket will develop
Radial artery is in the pocket
Hypertrophy
Get bigger in size as you are active
Atrophy
Muscles shrink when not in use
