Sever tarsal bones (Ankle)
5 metatarsal bones (Sole)
14 phalanges (toes)
total = 26 bones
The foot (function)
Performs dorsiflexion and plantarflexion, as well as inversion and eversion motions
Talus
the weight bearing ankle joint with the tibia. Articulates with the calcaneus and inferiorly withthe navicular
Subtalar Joint
Union btwn the talus and calcaneus, because it occurs on the inferior surface of the talus.
Midtarsal joint
Talus - navicular and calcaneus cuboid unions.
Calcaneus
Largest of the tarsal bones, and is the only one to rest on the ground.
Medial, intermediate, lateral Cuneiform bones
They are wedge shaped
Three plus the cuboid artciulate with the proximal ens of the 5 metatarsal bones.
Distal metatarsal heads
1st and 5th rest on the ground and form the ball of the foot.
5 metatarsal bones
5 toes are numbered from medial to laeral.
