What are the characteristics of the equine renal system?
-left kidney is further caudal than right
-liver contacts right kidney
-renal pyramids are completely fused
-renal crest projects into renal pelvis
-two terminal recesses
How do the kidney shapes differ between the right and left in the equine?
-heart-shaped right kidney
-bean-shaped left kidney
What are the characteristics of the bovine renal system?
-retain fetal lobation
-left kidney more caudal and ventral (more ventral bc of rumen)
-mutlipyramidal
-apex of each pyramid sits in a calyx
-calices drain into cranial and caudal branches of ureter
-caudal ureter branch runs parallel to ureter
-no renal pelvis
How do sheep and goat kidneys compare to the dog?
similarly resemble dog kidneys
What are the characteristics of the porcine renal system?
-positioned almost symmetrically
-smooth, flatter appearance
-separate renal pyramids
-long renal pelvis
-two major calices with multiple minor calices
